Advantage:

1) As production responds to changes in demand, the level of obsolete inventory is reduced. This should reduce the need for promotions and discounts to sell excess products.生产响应了需求的变化，降低了过时的库存水平。这也就减少促销产品的状况。

2) Goods can be customised more closely to customer requirements (e.g. cars produced with certain features in different colours)商品可以定制，更贴近客

3) Lower levels of inventory frees up cash for investment or to pay down debt,r as well as educing holding costs 库存水平降低，释放现金用以投资或偿还债务降低资金持有成本

Disadvantage:

1) Disruption at any point in the supply chain will stop production, which may mean lost sales 供应链上任一一点的停止都会导致生产中断，丧失销售机会

2) Heavy investment in IT required to co-ordinate the process；IT 上投资加大，协调各步骤

3) Quality of supplies must be consistent, otherwise production will be disrupted 供应商质量要稳定，否则生产会被中断
